Education and Outreach
A major cornerstone of the Equal Rights Center’s efforts to fight discrimination lies in its education and outreach activities.
Throughout the D.C.-metropolitan area ERC staff lead anti-discrimination presentations and workshops, participate in panel discussions, attend community fairs and local events, and conduct trainings all toward the goal of informing people about their rights and responsibilities under the law and teaching them about their options if they have encountered illegal discrimination.
The ERC specializes in educational trainings on the following topics:
- Fair Housing Laws
- Accessible Design and Construction
- Predatory Lending
- Immigrant Rights
- Employment Discrimination
The ERC also publishes The Point, a newsletter that is published quarterly and several brochures covering topics like workplace discrimination, source of income discrimination, and discrimination against immigrants.
All ERC members receive a free subscription to The Point. To become a Member of the ERC, please fill out and submit the application form by clicking here.
Since 2005 the ERC has been instrumental in launching the D.C. Civil Rights Alliance — an organization dedicated to bringing advocates, community leaders, clergy and organizations together to speak as a collective voice in support of advances in civil rights.
If you are interested in learning more about becoming a member of the Civil Rights Alliance or if you would like the ERC to conduct a training, lead a presentation, or participate in your event, please e-mail Natalie Laber at nlaber@equalrightscenter.org or call her at 202.234.3062, ext. 1104.
