The ERC’s search for our 5,000 member

5,000 days ago the world was bracing for a new millennium and worried that computers would be inoperable because of a “Y2K” bug. It was 1998. Hits like “You’re Still the One” by Shania Twain and “Truly, Madly, Deeply” by Savage Garden were on the radio, and the ERC was known as the Fair Housing Council of Greater Washington.

5,000 days later, the ERC is a national organization promoting equal opportunity in housing, employment, and access to public accommodations and government services, and has established itself as a national leader in the fight for civil rights for all.

This summer, the ERC has set out to find its 5,000th member sign up for email, donate, or recruit a new member today!

Members of the ERC play an integral role in the advancement of civil rights across the country. As the eyes, ears, and voice of the ERC, our members expand outreach and education to new communities, identify issues of discrimination as they develop, assist in the implementation of investigations, and provide much-needed financial support for the ERC.

All members receive regular e-mail updates about ERC events and activities, a subscription to the ERC’s quarterly “The Point” e-newsletter, and an invitation to the ERC’s annual membership meeting. Perhaps most importantly, members are the first to gain access to critical self-advocacy toolkits, “Know Your Rights” resources, and reports and publications detailing the nature of discrimination that might affect them.

Becoming a member is easy. Simply click here and sign up no financial contribution is required, but every new (and current) member who donates $50 or more to the ERC during this membership drive will receive an ERC “swag bag,” filled with ERC materials. Special recognition will be given to both our 5,000th member and to the member who introduces him or her to the organization. Already a member?
