Contact Melissa Rothstein
In her role as Deputy Director, Melissa Rothstein works with
the Executive Director in planning, implementing and supervising all aspects of
the day-to-day operations of the organization.
Prior to joining the ERC, Melissa was the Senior Program
Director at Just Detention International— a human rights organization dedicated
to ending sexual violence in detention.
In this role, she was responsible for overseeing all programmatic,
litigation, and policy advocacy work for the organization on the east
coast. Before her work with Just
Detention International, Melissa was a Senior Staff Attorney and Director of
Social Work at the Office of the Appellate Defender in New York, an Adjunct
Assistant Professor at the Columbia University School of Social Work, and a law
clerk for the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. Melissa holds a J.D. from Columbia Law
School, a M.S. in Social Work from Columbia University School of Social Work,
and a B.A. from Hampshire College. Before
joining the staff, Melissa also served as an ERC civil rights tester.
