Children have a right to grow up in the best housing available to them and their families. Yet families and single parents continue to face discrimination based on familial status – that is, the presence of existing or prospective children and custodianship.
Although a federally protected class, discrimination based on familial status continues to exist and is often used as a proxy for national origin or race discrimination. The ERC works to ensure all families are given equal opportunities when seeking housing.
