The ERC joined with DC Office of Disability Rights (ODR), the DC Office of Human Rights (OHR), the Department on Disability Services (DDS), and Quality Trust for Individuals with Disabilities to celebrate 20 years of the ADA. Held on July 15th, the event brought together disability activists and community members to discuss the early hurdles of the ADA, the achievements and challenges of the past 20 years, and the hopes and aspirations for the future.
On March 23rd, the ERC was joined by the DC Department of Housing and Community Development and the DC Office of Human Rights, in hosting the District’s 9th Annual Fair Housing Symposium. Held in conjunction with National Fair Housing Month, the educational forum united public and private fair housing advocates, community-based organizations, residential rental professionals, residential lending professionals, fair housing advocates, government and non-government direct service providers, and all those interested in learning more about fair housing.
On March 10th, the ERC welcomed all members to the ERC office for the annual membership meeting where members met staff, discussed input on ERC activities, and learned about our plans for the year. The ERC also distributed the first annual Director’s Award for Civil Rights Advocacy to ERC member, Stan Berman.
On April 28th, 2009, the DC Department of Housing and Community Development, the DC Office of Human Rights, joined the Equal Rights Center in hosting the District’s 8th Annual Fair Housing Symposium. The event consisted of three panel discussions covering issues relevant to advancing equality and fairness in housing.
