Your generous support of the Equal Rights Center (ERC) programs will advance and promote civil rights through strengthening our outreach, research, counseling, and advocacy efforts. There are several ways to show your support: Donate Online, Become a Member, Renew Your Membership, or you can review Other Ways to Support ERC. For more information on how you can help, please contact the Development Department at (202) 370-3209 or email Maria Emma del Toro, Development Associate.
Donate now! Your tax-deductible contribution to the ERC in any amount directly supports our vital civil rights work. Donors at all levels are eligible to become a Member of the ERC at the Advocate level or higher. Please see below for details.
Become a Member or Renew Your Membership
Become a new member or renew your membership! Members of the ERC play an integral role in the advancement of civil rights across the country. As the eyes, ears, and voice of the ERC, our enthusiastic member/advocates expand outreach and education to new communities, identify issues of discrimination as they develop, assist in the planning and implementation of investigations, and provide much-needed financial support for the ERC.
All ERC Members receive a subscription to the ERC’s quarterly The Point e-newsletter, e-mail updates about ERC events and activities, and an invitation to the ERC annual membership meeting.
Other Ways to Support ERC
When employees make a contribution to a charity or cause they support, their employer will often make a corporate match. Contact your HR department today to find out how you can make your gift to the ERC go even further.
You can purchase a gift membership to the ERC for your family, friends or colleagues—it’s the perfect way to give them the opportunity to become a part of the strong and diverse group of ERC Members that are working to advance civil rights throughout the country. To discuss gift memberships, please contact the Development Department at (202) 370-3209 or email Maria Emma del Toro, Development Associate, directly.
Monthly giving is available to donors who prefer to make smaller, periodic contributions rather than one larger one. Simply follow the instructions on the ERC donation form.
Tribute, Honor, or Memorial Giving
A gift to the ERC made in honor or in memory of a loved one is a meaningful way to pay tribute to an individual or to mark a special occasion. Please follow instructions for making this type of gift on the ERC donation form.
Estate and Gift Planning
Planned giving is a wonderful way for donors to leave a legacy of support for the work of the ERC, and helps assure civil rights advancement for years to come. To discuss bequests, please contact the Development Department at (202) 370-3209 or email Maria Emma del Toro, Development Associate, directly.
If you prefer to send your contribution via mail, please mail it to: Equal Rights Center, Development Department, 11 Dupont Circle NW, Suite 450, Washington, DC 20036.
CY PRES AWARDS
When monies from class action lawsuits are not ultimately distributed to class members of the suit, courts may approve cy pres awards to an entity or entities whose activities are consistent with the civil rights vindicated in the lawsuit. The ERC is well-suited to be a cy pres award recipient. As an organization that undertakes diverse initiatives that advance the civil and human rights of thousands of people across the country each year, the ERC is an excellent choice to advance the goals of most civil rights class actions. The ERC is a particularly appropriate recipient for a cy pres award if the case is related to equal opportunity in housing, employment, disability rights or immigrant rights.
To discuss designating the ERC for a cy pres award, please contact the Development Department at (202) 370-3209 or email Maria Emma del Toro, Development Associate, directly.
